This is dance, DJD's Juliet & Romeo
Last night I had the honour to attend the dress rehearsal for Decidedly Jazz Danceworks latest production, Juliet and Romeo. The show officially opened today and plays through 28 January.
Calgary's most well-known dance company, DJD, is much more than its name. This isn't your Daddy's jazz with leotards, tap dancing, jazz hands, and top hats. This is contemporary dance, beautifully choreographed with ambitious dancing, and a timeless love story. A narrator tells the story and the incredibly talented dancers bring it to life.
There are parts of the show which seem slightly clunky in its storytelling and the ending act didn't have the drama or energy of the rest of the show. But don't let this discourage you, the show overall is well worth the ticket price ($15-$69) and because the theatre is small, there's not a bad seat in the house.
